Netgear N300 Trek Travel Router Keeps You Connected Like Never Before

One of the more overlooked devices that debuted at CES was the Netgear N300 Trek wireless router. It's a really small, USB powered device that lets you share a wired or wireless internet connection with several different devices at a time. You can also use it to boost a weak Wi-Fi signal.

Getting started with this little guy is pretty simple. You have to first choose which type of network you are connecting to, either wireless or wired, and then slide up the antenna. It comes configured with an SSID and a randomly generated password. Once you get everything together and open up the default web page for the device you can save a profile for the hotspot you're connecting to, then select the network you are connecting the router to, and then you'll be taken to the network's log in page.

Once you are all hooked up, you can connect as many devices as you'd like without having to log in again. You can connect all of your wireless devices, but you are not limited to wireless connections because it even comes with Ethernet ports for all of your wired devices.

This comes in super handy when staying in hotel rooms while you are traveling. First of all, most hotel rooms have very outdated technology. They aren't meant to handle our current multi-device lifestyle. Also, lots of hotel rooms make you pay for your internet connection per device you have. If you get your password that you paid for, just use this device and connect all your other devices to it. It's kind of cheating the system.

If you're craving a Big Mac and fries on your lunch break, it may be possible for you to get some work done while you're eating under the golden arches. Earlier this month, over 11,000 McDonald's restaurants started offering free Wi-Fi service. Many of the restaurants were already offering paid Wi-Fi service because as one Manhattan McDonald's franchise owner Paul Hendel put it, "At first, McDonald's wasn't that relevant to laptop users."

In Europe, several McDonald's restaurants have been offering free Wi-Fi for years in an effort to create a cafe-like atmosphere. Hendel was flown to the continent to visit other restaurants and ended up remodeling his own to recreate the look. He's added softer lighting and more earth tones, as well replacing the old fiberglass tables with items such as zebra-print furniture. He also added a number of outlets for charging laptops and phones.

McDonald's doesn't currently place limits on how long a customer can use the service, unlike other establishments that have been offering Wi-Fi for sometime. Starbucks, for example, allows registered users only two hours of time online each day.

Hendel said he's not worried about customers taking advantage of the new opportunity. “I’ve seen an increase in business and customer counts are up. Just about everyone has been respectful of time and making McDonald’s purchases," he told the New York Daily News.

Plug the dongle into the router and you have a Wi-Fi network that runs without a hard line. This means that Sprint's new Mobile Broadband Routers can connect any Wi-Fi-enabled device at 3G or 4G mobile broadband speeds anywhere that a Sprint 3g or 4g network is available.

The Sprint Personal Hotspot PHS300S model can support up to four simultaneous Wi-Fi connections while the Cradlepoint MBR-1000 Broadband Router for business will support up to 32 simultaneous Wi-Fi connections. The ability of these wireless routers to be used with 3G and 4G networks looks to offer unprecedented advantages for the growing number of Wi-Fi users in the country. As 4G continues to be implemented across the country users will be able to maximize their wireless performance as they begin to start connecting to the industries fastest available network.
