New iPod Dock/Pico Projector?

neo-i ipod dock and projector
Lately, I’ve been noticing that companies are beginning to couple certain devices into one convenient device. I’ve especially been seeing this within the projector field. Everywhere you can find phones with projectors, cameras with projectors, and now an iPod deck with a projector. Optoma, a manufacturer of DLP and pico projectors, has just recently announced their new Neo-i. The company says that the Neo-i is the world’s first all-in-one iPod sound dock to feature a built-in pico projector. This is definitely an odd combination, but it could be extremely useful at times.

Although the Neo-i is technically not a portable device, it is very easy to move from place to place. It measures in at 8.9 x 12.8 x 3.1 inches (HWD) and weighs 2.5 pounds. The device features a variety of inputs including a VGA, an A/V jack, an Audio Out, an HDMI, and a DC jack. It also comes with a 16-watt speaker system that provides some great sound including a nice bass reflex for an iPod dock. The docking station of the Neo-i uses Apple’s 30-pin connector. This means that you can use your Apple iPod, iPhone, or iPod Touch with the device, and that the station will charge whatever device you are utilizing. The HDMI and VGA ports even allow you to connect devices like your laptop, Blu-ray player, or Apple TV to the Neo-i. There is also an accessory kit that is offered that will allow you to connect your iPad to the docking station.

Optoma allows you to control your iPhone or iPod from the device with an IR remote that they include with the dock or from the backlit control panel on the top of the Neo-i. You are also able to display the artist name or song or video titles by utilizing the projector, which is awesome. The projector built in to the oval shaped dock is a 50 ANSI Lumen Pico projector. It utilizes LED backlight behind the device's 0.3” WVGA DLP color wheel. This means that the device has a low enough power draw to run on batteries alone. The pico projector can deliver up to a 854 x 480 pixel resolution in its 16:9 format. Its image can be projected at any size from 5 to 120 inches, and it features a contrast ratio of 2000:1.

Unfortunately, the Neo-i iPod Dock/Pico Projector will not be available for sale until sometime in mid-December. It will be selling for $449.

I think that this new technology from Optoma is fantastic. Optoma has been producing projectors for quite some time, so it’s not too incredibly hard to believe that they decided to integrate a projector into an iPod dock. It makes sense. I think it’s a great combination and something that will definitely be a hit with iPod and iPhone users. It’s also going to be released just in time for the holiday season. I think that Optoma will do well with this new product, but I guess we will just have to wait and see.

MightyMeeting: Conduct Presentations On The Go

MightyMeeting is an application that will host your PowerPoint presentation or allow you to manage your PDF or Office files, while on the go, from your smartphone.

The process is pretty simple and quite handy if you're constantly on the go and not quite sure when you'll have to give that ever important presentation. You essentially upload your PDF or PowerPoint file to the service using a special Email address or directly from the web interface. You can then share the presentation with anyone you choose via email or SMS text message.

Once your audience has received your "link" they're ready for you to proceed. They can watch the presentation on the web or on their smartphones. When you flip the page on your smartphone, the change will be made on every "attendee's" computer screen or smartphone. You can use an integrated chat feature or use a simultaneous voice call to communicate with everyone.

To use the service you will need a 3G or WiFi connection. And to avoid any major network disruptions, you should be in an area with a strong connection. Another great feature is that you can choose to share your presentation with anyone and everyone with the Facebook and Twitter options.

I'm not entirely sold on the fact that this app will be the newest thing to hit your presentations. It is pretty handy and easy to use and could make traveling to meetings much less necessary, especially since you can operate it all from your iPhone.

Surgeon Creates iPhone App For His Patients

Surgeon Creates iPhone App For His Patients

Dr. Steven Deneberg, a Omaha, Nebraska plastic surgeon has created his own iPhone app. It allows his patients to choose a procedure without even stepping foot into his office. iPhone or iPod Touch users can download it, pick a procedure and see examples of potential procedures. It even allows them to email the doctor with photos of their problem areas and receive feedback without having to have an appointment.

Deneberg says he created the app himself, "I bought a stack of manuals and taught myself how to program it and this is what happened," he told KETV in Nebraska. But he is no stranger to innovation. In the 90's, he was one of the first plastic surgeons to take his business to the internet, launching his own website with hundreds of pictures.

When the app was finished, Deneberg tested it and had it approved by Apple. It's the first app of its kind. Dr. Deneberg has also started a company to develop iPhone apps for plastic surgeons, cosmetic dentists, and anyone else in the medical field who could benefit from showing photograph to their patients.

Apple Products Among Time's Best Travel Gadgets

Time Names Apple Products Best Travel Gadgets
Time Magazine has just come out with their list of the best travel gadgets of 2009 and Apple products seem to reign supreme. The iPod touch and the MacBook both made the cut; the MacBook because of its size and environmental friendliness and the iPod Touch due to its Wi-Fi compatibility, speed and selection of games.

Strangely absent from the list was what is perhaps Apple's most popular product: the iPhone.

So what else made the cut? Coming in at the number one spot is the Slingbox Pro HD. It is followed by MiFi, the Targus 4-port Smart USB Hub, the MacBook and Beats Solo rounding out the top five. To see the complete list, visit Time.com.

An App a Day

An App a Day

iPhone apps can be confusing. The App Store contains thousands of applications for your iPhone or iPod touch and often, so many of them do the same exact same thing. A quick search for third party Twitter apps brings you over 170 results. But how do you know which one is the best without wasting hours pouring over websites and reviews and asking your friends?

With "App of the Day" you don't have to spend the time looking for quality apps, the suggestions come to you. It features applications that are community-nominated and featured on the homepage each day. iPhone users have the opportunity to comment, submit app ideas and leave feedback for potential app buyers. Each user can only nominate one app per day with the highest nominated application being the winner each day.

The concept is so simple and will add a lot of ease to iPhone use. Many are asking why it's taken so long to make it happen. The website was founded by Jordan Satok, a 15-year-old Toronto-based entrepreneur who focuses on web startups in the software field. Satok built the site, which is hosted on Rackspace Cloud, in less than ten days.
