Nexus One Gets Colorful Makeover

Nexus One ColorwareEver just look at one of your gadgets and think "man you would look awesome with a turquoise frame, burgundy back cover and butter mellow bottom"? Well if that's so, then you have heard of a little company called Colorware. Colorware is known for taking many of today's popular gadgets and transforming them into colorful works of personal art based on your customization wishes.

Colorware has smacked it's custom finishes on hot pieces of technology like the iPhone 3GS, the Nook, the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and even, on occasion, a ThinkPad. Well now the colorful company has added another device to their lists of customizable color makeovers, Google's own Nexus One.

Colorware offers 46 different colors in a solid, metallic or pearl finish. Colorware shows some amazing attention to detail with your customization options. Users have the ability to color the frame, the back, the bottom and even the camera (well done Colorware) with all the same colors and finishes or any combination of all of them. The process to transform your typically dull Nexus One into a colorful representation of your unique persona will take three weeks and cost you $175 if you already have the phone or a whopping $800 for a brand new phone.

The one restriction the service has on it is that it is only available in the United States. Other than that practically any way you want to color your Nexus One you can. To see exactly what your Nexus One will look like all decked out it its beautiful ensemble of colorful creativity, check out the Colorware Nexus One Design Studio on the company's website.

Favi's New Small Bright Business Projector

Favi's New Products Include Small Business Projector

Pico projectors are projected to be all the rage this year and Favi Entertainment is jumping right in with the announcement of three new projectors: two LED-based pico projectors and another one that is said to be large than a pico but smaller than a standard projector.

The Favi RIOLED-Q is being called a "bright business projector" by PC Magazine. It has a native 800 x 600 resolution and is only the second pico projector (the Optoma PK301 is the first) to have a brightness of 50 lumens. It also includes a SM/MMC card reader and built-in memory. Other features include two built-in speakers, digital keystone correction, A/V in, VGA-in, USB connections and patter via both battery and adapter.

The other pico, aimed at consumers, is the Favi RIOLED-V. Favi describes it as pico projector/media player/netbook hybrid that "fits in your pocket." It uses Linux for web apps such as YouTube, Flickr, Picasas, Yahoo News RSS, weather, email, internet and web browser. It has a built-in calendar and alarm clock, as well as an SM/MMC card reader and built-in memory. It operates via remote control or by buttons and connections include USB, A/V output, and headphones.

The RIOHD-LED2 isn't a pico projector but it is fairly small and is said to be great for educational, business or home theater use. It is 7 x 6 x 3 inches and weighs about 2.5 pounds, making it bigger than a mini projector but smaller than a standard portable projector. It has a brightness of 400 lumens (pretty bright for its size) and the LED lamp is said to last around 20,000 hours. It comes with a remote control, power adapter and user guide, and inputs include HDMI, YPbPr, S-Video, Composite A/V, Heapone, and VGA. It also has built-in speakers.

The RIOHD-LED2 is due out in February and should cost around $348. Prices for both pico projectors have not been announced, but they are expected to ship in late February or March.

Would You Like Wi-Fi with That?

Would You Like Wi-Fi with That

If you're craving a Big Mac and fries on your lunch break, it may be possible for you to get some work done while you're eating under the golden arches. Earlier this month, over 11,000 McDonald's restaurants started offering free Wi-Fi service. Many of the restaurants were already offering paid Wi-Fi service because as one Manhattan McDonald's franchise owner Paul Hendel put it, "At first, McDonald's wasn't that relevant to laptop users."

In Europe, several McDonald's restaurants have been offering free Wi-Fi for years in an effort to create a cafe-like atmosphere. Hendel was flown to the continent to visit other restaurants and ended up remodeling his own to recreate the look. He's added softer lighting and more earth tones, as well replacing the old fiberglass tables with items such as zebra-print furniture. He also added a number of outlets for charging laptops and phones.

McDonald's doesn't currently place limits on how long a customer can use the service, unlike other establishments that have been offering Wi-Fi for sometime. Starbucks, for example, allows registered users only two hours of time online each day.

Hendel said he's not worried about customers taking advantage of the new opportunity. “I’ve seen an increase in business and customer counts are up. Just about everyone has been respectful of time and making McDonald’s purchases," he told the New York Daily News.

MightyMeeting: Conduct Presentations On The Go

MightyMeeting is an application that will host your PowerPoint presentation or allow you to manage your PDF or Office files, while on the go, from your smartphone.

The process is pretty simple and quite handy if you're constantly on the go and not quite sure when you'll have to give that ever important presentation. You essentially upload your PDF or PowerPoint file to the service using a special Email address or directly from the web interface. You can then share the presentation with anyone you choose via email or SMS text message.

Once your audience has received your "link" they're ready for you to proceed. They can watch the presentation on the web or on their smartphones. When you flip the page on your smartphone, the change will be made on every "attendee's" computer screen or smartphone. You can use an integrated chat feature or use a simultaneous voice call to communicate with everyone.

To use the service you will need a 3G or WiFi connection. And to avoid any major network disruptions, you should be in an area with a strong connection. Another great feature is that you can choose to share your presentation with anyone and everyone with the Facebook and Twitter options.

I'm not entirely sold on the fact that this app will be the newest thing to hit your presentations. It is pretty handy and easy to use and could make traveling to meetings much less necessary, especially since you can operate it all from your iPhone.

Samsung Diva S5150 Flip and S7070 Touch

Samsung DivaEver wanted a cell phone that resembled that wonderful hand-made quilt your great-great grandmother knitted a long long time ago? Of course you did right? Why else would Samsung make such a device then? Samsung has just unveiled the first two members of their new line of cell phones from the Diva series, the S5150 Flip and the S7070 Touch. It seems Samsung is targeting women with these phones mainly because of the "Diva" name but also because in a press release about the S5150 and S7070 it was said "Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. today debuts two phones that will satisfy every woman's fascination and desire for mobile phones..." and "...Samsung plans to introduce Samsung Diva Collection models annually to satiate the inner needs of women mobile phone users." Sounds exciting doesn't it?

The S7070 Touch has a few features that may actually appeal to some of you out there, other than the "beautiful" quilted exterior. The Touch comes with a 5-megapixel, autofocus camera as well as a 3-inch resistive touchscreen display. The display has WQVGA resolution and runs TouchWiz UI. Connectivity includes a standard microUSB connector as well as Bluetooth connectivity. In addition to that, the Touch also has built-in FM radio and a microSD slot. The touch also has a feature called "Beauty Effect". This gives you "perfect photo retouching so portraits will look flawlessly beautiful". The Touch also has Lomo Effect, which enriches ordinary snapshots into "artistic photographs".

The other quilted wonder unveiled by Samsung is the S5150 "Clamshell". The S5150 has a super shiny quilted finish as well as a concealed LED (not LCD) that lights up in different ways when calls come in or other events happen. The S5150 has a 2.2-inch display with QVGA resolution as well as a 3-megapixel camera. The S5150 also offers features like Beauty Shot and Lomo Effect as well as built-in security features like "SOS Message" and "Fake call".

If you desperately seek a phone like this then you are in luck because Samsung has announced that they should be available in Q1 2010 though no word on pricing has been released.

Airport Security to Tighten Belt Another Notch

Organization Saves Time
The new year is bringing more changes in airport security. The New York Times reports that organization and planning in advance is key to moving through check points quickly. Here are a few tips from the Transportation Security Administration website in order to help you plan for your next business trip.

- Only use travel sized bottles of shampoo and other toiletries such as toothpaste and shaving cream.

- Put all bottles and make up into a clear Ziploc bag or pack them neatly in a clear organizer where everything can be seen and identified quickly.

- When in doubt leave it out! Certain small sharp objects like screwdrivers are aloud as long as they are 7in in length or shorter. Cigarette lighters however are generally prohibited.

- Pack everything neatly. Make sure all cords like cell charger, mouse and any computer cords are wound up and tied neatly.

Finally, the less you can get by without taking with you, the faster your trip through security check points are going to be. For example consider buying toiletries at your destination, or consider technology rental to have a loaded laptop with the software you need waiting for you at your hotel.

For more information on airport security and travel please visit the TSA website
